I went down to Palmer Lake yesterday to spend some time with my dad (Daniel Fraley). We're working on a project together involving this photograph (well, he's doing most of the work!):
Photographer: Ellen Von Unwerth
My dad has really become an accomplished artist over the years - and somewhat of a celebrity in Palmer Lake and Monument. The Palmer Lake Library celebrated a significant anniversary (100 years? 50 years?) a few years ago, and used one of my dad's paintings as their special-issue library card. Pretty cool, I think!
In any event, we did some wheeling and dealing yesterday and I came home with two new gems:
Artist: Daniel Fraley
To give you an idea of size:
This lovely Hemingway replaces a smaller version and I'm so proud to hang it next to my beloved Hemingway writing desk.
I also snapped up my dad's delightful rendering of Modigliani's painting of Jean Cocteau (though I believe this is a mirror image of the original):
Artist: Daniel Fraley
I couldn't quite get the glare off the painting (feeling impatient today), so the picture doesn't do justice to the dark, richness of the piece.
Also, here's another study of Modigliani (I think it's of Modigliani's fianceé, Jeanne Hébuterne, though I could be wrong on that):
Artist: Daniel Fraley
I liked this image - in my frontroom - because it looks like she's sunbathing.
