Oh snap! I so went there.
Look familiar?
Something went horribly wrong when Narciso Rodriguez re-tooled his runway design for our future First Lady...
If you've followed this blog at all, you may have picked up on the fact that I've been mildly obsessed over this campaign and subsequent election. Needless to say, I was thrilled when Obama won and waited excitedly for his victory speech.
But, when Michelle Obama made her entrance with our President-elect before throngs of people at Grant Park the other night, I sort of lost my bearings for a moment. I was disoriented and confused. The front was a hot mess and the visible panty line in the back was tragic. Maybe she hasn't discovered the joy of Spanx yet? (Forget diamonds and dogs, Spanx are a girl's best friend.)
I love Michelle Obama because she's someone we can relate to. Well, maybe not her Ivy-league education or the fact that her husband is soon-to-be the most powerful man in the world, but she's down-to-earth and no-nonsense and for that, she's aces in my book and I can't just sit back and watch people put her in the wrong clothes.
That being said, I have one word for you, Mrs. O: Shirtdress.
A lovely red jersey knit...
Or how about a little satin number with a hint of crinoline (come on, what girl doesn't love crinoline?)...
LaDress makes the perfect shirtdress! It's basically the same dress, but it comes in lots of different fabrics and you can add accents - like a crinoline, brooch, or a sassy shoe or boot - to change up the look. The shirtdress is practical, functional, stylish and - most importantly - flattering on women of all shapes and sizes. If I were Michelle, I would embrace this style and make it her signature look.
Now - January 20 is quickly approaching which means it's time to start thinking about the Inauguration and the Inaugural Ball! So exciting!
A cute Chanel suit for the swearing-in...(quilted patent pumps - love, love!)
And for the Ball, stick with Dior, Oscar de la Renta, YSL, or Valentino - stay away from jewel tones (gag! cliche! ugh!) and go with a steel grey Duchesse satin off-the-shoulder gown, or bathe yourself in miles of black organza a la this gorgeous Dior...
Okay - this one might be a bit much as is, but with a little loving modification, it would be perfect.
Well, my work here is done; but if you ever need a shopping buddy, Michelle, I'm your girl!
