Table Tops

And so the decoupage project continues...

Here's what happened after I applied the first coat of polyurethane on my Paris table...

I should have put another coat or two of Mod Podge on top of everything to make sure all edges were sealed down nice and tight. Since I didn't, the poly seeped under the edges of that middle page - oops! It's not really a big deal, though; it just sort of adds to the aged look of the materials I used.

On my second table, I used cards from a deck meant to inspire ideas for writing. This deck of cards (from The Observation Deck) was one of the first gifts my husband ever gave me and I loved the idea of creating a "writer's table" with them.

I mixed a bunch of Thyme in with the Mod Podge in order to add a unique twist to the composition of this table....

Not one to (usually) make the same mistake twice, I've coated this table with about six coats of Mod Podge (which not only ensures that the pesky poly won't seep underneath the unpeeled cards, but also buries the Thyme - in time).

I'll just sand down any Thyme that pokes through before I start coating with the poly...

And this handsome guy...

created this awesome pulp fiction-inspired Doc Savage table...

He's got mad decoupage skills, that's for sure! This one took a lot of extra time because he had to make sure not to smear the artwork (printed off the computer) and get ink all over the place. I have to say - the picture doesn't do the table justice; he did an amazing job and it looks so freaking cool!

We still have to add many, many coats of poly before all the tables are completely finished and placed atop their bases; stay tuned!
